What is a syllable?

"I can identify how many syllables are in a line of poetry."

Workshop length: 1 hour

Children listen to The Unicorn's Horn and work together to identify the number of syllables in a line. Once they've explored this as a group, they are challenged to find their syllable buddies, which will then give them three rhyming words. Using these words, they then begin to write some poetry of their own.

Can I show my imagination in creative writing?

Enter Twigs' world in Farewell to Faerie Forest as children are given the opportunity to carry on her story in the style of the author. Allowing the children to explore a magical world of fairies and elves, witness as the freedom to let their imaginations soar inspires them to find pleasure in writing.

Find out what danger is hiding in the darkness as Charlotte introduces the children to the world of Twigs. Piece together the clues in the text, and encourage them to use their imagination to decide what peril the poor fae is facing.

Discover why the unicorns are on the brink of extinction as a young girl desperately tried to save them. Using drama skills, children immerse themselves in the story Where Unicorns Roam as they take on the role of the creatures' protector and of their persecutors.
