Literary Awards

There is no better validation of your hard work and resilience as an author than when your book receives a literary award.

So far, Broken Twigs has won four awards, with more to come in the future.

  • Winner of the Purple Dragonfly Award
  • Winner of the Royal Dragonfly Award
  • Finalist in The Wishing Shelf Book Awards
  • Finalist in the IAN Book of the Year Award

The Purple Dragonfly Award

The Purple Dragonfly Book Award contest is a worldwide book competition that began in 2009 to celebrate the best in children's books in 56 categories. Judges look for stories that are original, innovative and creative in content and design.

Broken Twigs: Farewell to Faerie Forest won this award in 2021.

The Royal Dragonfly Award

The Royal Dragonfly Book Award contest is a worldwide book competition that began in 2011 and honours excellence in all types of literature, recognising creativity and hard work in 67 categories.

Broken Twigs: Realm of the Thunderbird won this award in 2021.

The Wishing Shelf Book Awards

Set up a few years ago by UK-based children's author, Edward Trayer, The Wishing Shelf Book Awards offer independently published authors the opportunity to have their work judged thoroughly.

Children's book categories are judged by school children from around the UK, making this award particularly special as Twigs was accredited by her intended audience.

Broken Twigs: Farewell to Faerie Forest won this award in 2021.

Broken Twigs: Where Unicorns Roam won this award in 2023.

The Independent Author Network

Since its inception in 2010, the Independent Author Network (IAN) has become an important resource for independent authors. Once a year, IAN hosts the Book of the Year Awards, which is an international contest open to all authors with 50 fiction and non-fiction categories.

Against strong competition Broken Twigs placed in the top eight in the Children's and Juvenile section.

Broken Twigs: Realm of the Thunderbird won this award in 2022.

“A thrilling fantasy adventure, perfect for 9 - 12 year olds. A FINALIST and highly recommended!"

The Wishing Shelf Book Awards, 2022

“I liked Twigs the most. She reminded me of my sister who never listens to anybody! This is an exciting fantasy adventure I think 9 - 12 year olds will enjoy."

Boy reader, aged 12

“Cool book. When I say the angry looking Twigs on the cover, I wanted to read it. It's sort of like an Enid Blyton book, but naughty too. There's a lot happening, and I liked how the hero developed. This is a good novel for children."

Girl reader, aged 12 - with a little help from Mum

“Magical, fun, with a few life lessons thrown in. My class enjoyed this book. They liked the naughty Twigs (who they could all relate to) and they felt it was exciting. They all liked the elf too, and they thought the queen was very wise."

Primary School Teacher

“A little bit scary, but not too scary. I liked the twisting plot. I was always surprised by what happened next. The ending was good too. I hope there will be another book with Twigs in it."

Girl reader, aged 10
